Yoga is an intimate practice that can be carried out in the comfort of your home, and we can teach you a wide range of yoga techniques (postures, breathwork, mindfulness, and meditation) to regulate the nervous system, improve hormonal balance and enhance your well-being, either in-person or online wherever you may be.
In our modern age, while technology has enabled us to connect with people globally, we've paradoxically grown more disconnected from those around us and even from ourselves. This disconnection manifests as a discord between our thoughts and emotions, hindering our ability to express ourselves authentically and positively channel our feelings. Instead of nurturing our inner awareness, we've outsourced it to gadgets that monitor our vital signs, sleep, and calorie intake, unwittingly becoming enslaved by our own creations. Yoga allows us to reconnect with ourselves by fine tuning our senses, improving interoception and take charge of our emotions enabling sound judgement and behaviour.
Research findings from two meta-analytic studies published by the American Psychological Association in 2000 revealed a startling truth: the anxiety levels among schoolchildren in the 1980s far surpassed those of post-World War II child psychiatric patients. It hints at increasing cases of depression, substance abuse with further implications for physical health leading to higher mortality rate. It's evident that stress and anxiety, along with their detrimental effects on mental health, have only escalated over time, particularly exacerbated by events like the Covid-19 pandemic, ongoing geopolitical conflicts, economic uncertainty, climate change, and an unpredictable future landscape. The 2023 Stress in America TM report from APA closely examines the effect of stress and collective trauma on peoples’ mind, body, and lives with reported deterioration in their physical and mental health.
Despite significant strides in mental health understanding and treatment, we have yet to find a reliable cure for most mental health conditions. While pharmaceuticals have offered relief for some, they often come with undesirable side effects and uncertainties about long-term efficacy. Similarly, talk therapies, while effective for some, may not address the physiological aspects of mental health.
This is where yoga comes in. Designed as a psychosomatic modality, yoga addresses the interconnectedness of body, mind, and soul. Research studies have demonstrated that incorporating yoga as an adjunctive therapy is immensely beneficial for individuals in enhancing mental well-being and achieving desirable treatment outcomes.
Unlike pharmaceuticals and talk therapies, which tend to focus solely on the mind, yoga views the human being as a continuum of body, mind, and spirit. By engaging the body as a means to harness the mind, yoga empowers individuals to regulate their emotions and cultivate self-awareness, and self-compassion. According to Patanjali’s Yogasutras, yoga is a journey from a diseased state of mind to a blissful state. Using the body, breath, and meditation, yoga enables a person to evolve to their highest potential and thrive in life's ups and downs.
In essence, yoga offers a holistic approach to mental well-being, guiding individuals on a transformative journey toward inner peace and resilience. Start your path to mental well-being with yoga today.
